FTSE 100 Extended Gains In the October 07, 2019 Trading Session

Global Markets*: Stocks in the United States in the October 07, 2019, trading session were trading in green, with the broader index S&P 500 index surged by 6.22 points or 0.21% to 2,958.23, the price-weighted Dow Jones Industrial Average Index increased marginally by 75.51 points or 0.28% at 26,649.23 and the Nasdaq Composite index accelerated by 25.01 points or 0.31 per cent to 8,007.48 (at the time of writing 02:05 PM ET).

Global News*: On October 07, 2019, the Wall Street opened weaker amid investors anticipation of the US Markets going into recession ahead of the US-China trade talks later in the week. General Electric was up 0.7 per cent after it announced to freeze its U.S. Pension plan, which would lead to a reduction of the Pension Deficit by US $5 billion and a reduction in the net debt by around US $6 billion. General Motors fell by around 1.00 per cent in comparison to the previous close after the Union of Automobile Workers (UAW) informed that the negotiations to end the strike had taken a downturn. Uber was up by 3.3 per cent after the analysts at Citigroup gave a “buy” call on the stock. Dish Network was one of the largest gainers of the day at 11.8 per cent following the conclusion of a peace deal with the Fox network, that will bring the Fox Channels back to its subscribers, after a conflict for a two-week period.

Worst Performers: Dollar Tree Inc, Edwards Lifesciences Corp and Devon Energy Corp are the top three laggards and decreased by 3.20%, 2.57% and 2.21% respectively.

NASDAQ Composite (IXIC)*

Top Performers: Akcea Therapeutics Inc, Ritter Pharmaceuticals Inc, and Aethlon Medical Inc are top gainers and increased by 35.76%, 30.23% and 25.46% respectively.

Worst Performers: NGM Biopharmaceuticals Inc, Titan Pharmaceuticals Inc and Capricor Therapeutics Inc are the top three laggards and decreased by 16.97%, 15.91% and 14.29% respectively.

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI)*

Top Performers: Chevron Corp, United Healthgroup Inc and Apple Inc are top gainers and increased by 0.45%, 0.43% and 0.40% respectively.

Worst Performers: Coca-Cola Co, Walmart Inc and Travelers Companies Inc are the top three laggards and decreased by 0.92%, 0.91% and 0.88% respectively.

European Markets: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 42.50 points or 0.59% higher at 7,197.88, the FTSE 250 index snapped 60.13 points or 0.31% lower at 19,420.24, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 17.07 points or 0.43% higher at 3,950.22 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended at 382.91, up by 2.69 points or 0.71 per cent.

European News*: After Prime Minister Boris Johnson offered a possible compromise on the Irish border to the European Union last Wednesday, he said on Monday that the two parties should now urgently discuss in detail his proposal and claimed that the onus to act is on EU now, as both sides seek to avoid blame for a disorderly no-deal Brexit or a delay. The British Retail Consortium said that total retail sales values fell by 1.3 per cent in September over the last year, reporting the worst figures for September since at least the mid-1990s, suggesting household spending may be starting to wane. As reports emerged that the PM intends to challenge the law requiring him to seek a delay in the Supreme Court, investors grew increasingly concerned that Britain would not be able to reach a deal, Sterling fell in early London trading on Monday.

Top Performers: PETRA DIAMONDS LD (PDL), AVON RUBBER PLC (AVON) and ZOTEFOAMS PLC (ZTF) were top gainers and leapt up by 7.06%, 5.29% and 4.75% respectively.

Worst Performers: SIG PLC (SHI), DEVRO PLC (DVO) and MACAU PROPERTY OPP. FUND LD (MPO) were the top three losers and dipped by 15.23%, 8.30% and 8.05% respectively.

Top Gainers: INTL CONSOLIDATED AIRLINES GROUP SA (IAG), VODAFONE GROUP PLC (VOD) and NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC) were top performers and edged up by 2.84%, 2.03% and 1.96% respectively.

Top Laggards: JD SPORTS FASHION PLC (JD.), INFORMA PLC (INF) and CARNIVAL PLC (CCL) were the worst performers and beaten down by 2.47%, 1.86% and 1.74% respectively.

Volume Leaders: (LLOY) LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC; (CNA) CENTRICA PLC; (GLEN) GLENCORE PLC.
