FTSE 100 Index Performance In Friday’s Session

Global Markets*:  The Wallstreet listed stocks were down trending in the last market session of this week, with the broader index S&P 500 fell by 61.32 points or 2.10% to 2,861.63, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down by 513.21 points or 1.95% to 25,739.03 and the technology benchmark index Nasdaq Composite slumped about 205.75 points or 2.57% to 7,785.64 respectively.

Global News*: China has announced to slap imports from the United States with additional duties of between 5-10% on the US$75bn from September 2019, and it was marked as the latest trade escalation in an increasingly bitter trade spat between the world’s two largest economies. Beijing will slap new rates tariffs on imports to a range of products including frozen pork and nuts from September 1, 2019.

European Markets*: The London’s broader equity benchmark index FTSE 100 traded at 42.59 points or 0.60% higher at 7,170.77, the FTSE 250 index snapped 145.29 points or 0.76% higher at 19,350.61, and the FTSE All-Share Index ended 22.98 points or 0.59% higher at 3,935.92 respectively. Another European equity benchmark index STOXX 600 ended at 375.75, up by 1.46 points or 0.39 per cent.

European News*: The British Prime Minister told the nation to “get ready” for a without-agreement divorce from the EU bloc after bruising telephone calls with EU top leaders Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron saw him lay down the law on the Irish backstop. He added that “On the flip side of a without a deal Brexit or the prospect of a no-deal crash out, well, we have just got to get ready for it. I don’t think that’s where we will end up.

London Stock Exchange (LSE)

Top Performers*: ENTERTAINMENT ONE LD (ETO), SIRIUS MINERALS PLC (SXX) and INTU PROPERTIES PLC (INTU) are top performers of the day and up by 32.72%, 5.55% and 10.68% respectively.

Worst Performers*: CHARLES TAYLOR PLC (CTR), THOMAS COOK GROUP PLC (TCG) and PORVAIR PLC (PRV) are the top three laggards of the day and down by 5.73%, 5.38% and 5.35% respectively.

Performers*: BERKELEY GROUP HOLDINGS (THE) PLC (BKG), SSE PLC (SSE) and ITV PLC (ITV) are the top three gainers in today’s session and up by 3.08%, 2.97% and 2.88% respectively.

Laggards*: NMC HEALTH PLC (NMC), JD SPORTS FASHION PLC (JD.), and EVRAZ PLC (EVR) are top laggards at the FTSE 100 index and down by 5.27%, 1.78% and 1.75% respectively.

Active by Volume*: LLOYDS BANKING GROUP PLC (LLOY), VODAFONE GROUP PLC (VOD), and GLENCORE PLC (GLEN).

Top Performing Sectors*: Utilities (+1.75%), Consumer Cyclicals (+0.66%), and Technology (+0.60%).

Worst Performing Sector*: Energy (-0.32%).

Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income

FX Rates*: GBP/USD and EUR/GBP were trading at 1.2274 and 0.9078, respectively.

10-Year Bond Yields*: US 10Y Treasury and UK 10Y Bond yields were exchanging at 1.515% and 0.474% respectively.
